Kenya’s Park Entrance Fee Increase

Kenya’s Park Entrance Fee Increase – Effective January 1, 2024, Kenya’s game reserves and national parks, including the renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, will implement increased park entry fees. Under the stewardship of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the country manages an extensive network of natural reserves and parks.

This includes twenty-five terrestrial national parks, twenty-nine terrestrial national reserves, four marine national parks, six marine national reserves, six national wildlife sanctuaries, and three captive wildlife management facilities. The overarching mission of the KWS is to safeguard these invaluable natural assets, ensuring their preservation for the benefit of present and future generations.

While the forthcoming park entry fee increases may appear significant, they are anticipated to yield positive outcomes for the parks:

  1. Enhanced Conservation: The augmented revenue stream will empower conservation initiatives, enabling increased ranger patrols. There is also intensified anti-poaching efforts, and heightened wildlife protection measures.
  2. Improved Infrastructure: With additional funding at their disposal, the parks will undertake essential infrastructure projects, resulting in better-maintained roads and upgraded facilities. These ultimately enhancing the overall visitor experience.
  3. Protection of Biodiversity. The heightened financial support will enable the parks to amplify their efforts in safeguarding Kenya’s diverse and abundant biodiversity.
  4. Enriched Safari Experience: Visitors can anticipate a more enriching safari experience during peak seasons, with the potential for reduced vehicle congestion. Moreover, guests will take pride in knowing that their contributions directly support the conservation and sustainability of Kenya’s natural treasures.

The entrance fee for Maasai Mara Park now grants access for a 12-hour period.

Starting from July 1, 2023, there was a modification to the validity period of entry fees for the Masai Mara, adjusting the daily park entry from 24 hours to 12 hours. Consequently, every guest is required to possess a valid park ticket for each night spent in the Mara Reserve. On the departure day, guests must either be at the airstrip or exit the reserve by 10 a.m.

The Narok County government has clarified that this fee adjustment is crucial to cover the escalating costs associated with managing and conserving the reserve. We sincerely appreciate your continued support and dedication to the preservation of the Masai Mara National Reserve. Together, we can ensure its long-term protection and sustainability.

Safaris utilizing the private conservancies surrounding the Masai Mara will experience minimal impact. We now include one entry fee for all guests staying three nights (two days) in a Mara Conservancy. This means that the price increase will only be applicable for one entry. On the other day, guests can continue enjoying game drives within the conservancy.
