Following breakfast, your safari guide will rendezvous with you for the road journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. En route, we'll pause at the equator for picturesque moments, then proceed to Mbarara town for a satisfying lunch break. Spanning 1,978 sq km, Queen Elizabeth National Park is situated both north and south of the equator in Southwestern Uganda. This diverse park showcases a wide array of vegetation, encompassing open savannahs, lush rainforests, dense papyrus swamps, captivating crater lakes, and the expansive Lake George.
Begin your day with an early breakfast, then proceed to Kyambura Gorge for a thrilling chimpanzee trek guided by a tracker. This captivating reserve houses a community of over 30 chimpanzees, offering an immersive up-to-four-hour trekking experience. In the afternoon, set off on a scenic boat trip. Glide along the river, encountering wildlife up close—hippos displaying their huffs and sprays nearby, buffalo lingering in the shallows, and a diverse array of birds gracing the river's grassy banks. Witness elephants on the riverbanks, quenching their thirst and bathing. Return to the lodge for dinner and spend the early evening leisurely at the pool deck, which overlooks the Kazinga Channel. From this vantage point, observe wildlife while enjoying the serene ambiance.
Commence the day with an early morning game drive heading to Ishasha sector, renowned for its tree-climbing lions and diverse wildlife such as Uganda Kobs and Topi. Encounter an array of animals along the way during this thrilling expedition. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the riverbanks of Ishasha while marveling at the sight of numerous hippos basking in the sun. Depart the park around 3:00 PM and embark on a road journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park nestled in Southwestern Uganda. Spanning 331 sq km, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest features both montane and lowland forest terrain accessible solely by foot. Home to 120 mammal species, the park is most famed for its mountain gorillas. Traverse hiking trails to discover a myriad of bird species and various primates amidst this rich jungle sanctuary.
Following an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines at 7:45 am, joining fellow trackers. Trek through dense vegetation alongside your guides in search of the gorillas, which may take 1-4 hours. The challenging terrain, densely forested and crossed by animal trails, offers an adventurous journey for tourists. Spend an hour in the company of the gorillas once they're found. Subsequently, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, traversing a picturesque region often dubbed the “Switzerland of Africa” for its unique cool climate despite its equatorial location. In the evening, opt for a scenic boat ride to explore the scattered islands or unwind at the lodge. Later, return to the lodge to unwind and relax.
Indulge in a leisurely breakfast at the lodge terrace, soaking in the picturesque view of the lake's serene islands and refreshing breezes from the surrounding hills. Prepare for your return journey to Kampala, anticipating a stopover in Mbarara town for a satisfying lunch, accompanied by a cup of delightful homemade organic coffee. Additionally, pause at the Uganda Equator for memorable photo opportunities and souvenir shopping. Continue the journey to Kampala, with an estimated late afternoon or evening arrival.
