Dry Season (June to October)

This is considered the best time for game viewing.
Wildlife tends to concentrate around water sources, making it easier to spot animals.
Park roads remain open and accessible, ideal for driving safaris.
Weather ranges typically from 15°C to 32°C and is dry.

Green (Wet) Season (December to March)

The landscape is lush and green, excellent for birding enthusiasts.
Many animals are dispersed, and this season sees many newborn animals.
Heavy rains can cause some road closures and limit access.
Temperatures are warmer, between 22°C and 35°C.

Park Accessibility

Gorongosa National Park is closed from mid-December to the end of March for ecosystem recovery.
After reopening, some roads may still be temporarily closed until they are safe.

Getting There

Most visitors fly into Beira on Mozambique's central coast.
From Beira, it is a 3–4 hour road transfer or a light aircraft flight to the park’s main camp at Chitengo.
A 4x4 vehicle is recommended for park roads.
There are also scheduled light aircraft flights into the park from Beira.
