Mweru Wantipa National Park, Zambia

Mweru Wantipa National Park surrounds the shallow, fluctuating Lake Mweru Wantipa in Zambia's far north, a mosaic of swamp, lake, grassland and dry forest. Historically rich in elephant, buffalo and huge crocodile populations, the park is the focus of ongoing restoration efforts and remains an important refuge for water birds and wetland wildlife. Its remote setting between Lakes Mweru and Tanganyika makes it one of the country's least-explored wilderness areas.
