Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Uganda

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rwenzori Mountains—the fabled "Mountains of the Moon"—rise to snow-capped Margherita Peak at 5,109 metres, Africa's third highest summit. The park's glaciers, alpine lakes and surreal vegetation of giant lobelias and groundsels reward multi-day trekkers, while its lower slopes shelter chimpanzees, elephants and many endemic birds.
