Abijatta-Shalla protects two contrasting Rift Valley lakes: shallow, alkaline Lake Abijatta and deep, crater-formed Lake Shalla. The park is a birder's paradise, famous for great white pelicans and vast flocks of flamingos, with hot springs, acacia woodland and grassland supporting ostrich, grant's gazelle and Grant's gazelle.
