Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park — Entry Fees & Practical Info

Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is the only national park in Zanzibar. It lies in Kusini District of the Unguja South Region, on Unguja Island, roughly 35 km south-east of Zanzibar Town (Stone Town) and about 5 km south of Chwaka Bay. Its area is commonly cited at around 50 square kilometres, protecting a mosaic of groundwater forest, coastal forest, grassland, salt marsh and mangrove. The park is best known for the endemic Zanzibar red colobus monkey, and also shelters Aders' duiker, the Zanzibar servaline genet and the Zanzibar leopard. It records 168 bird species, 30 of them of global or regional significance, and 291 identified plant species of which 21 are classified as endangered. Visitor activities centre on guided walks along the forest nature trail, an elevated wooden boardwalk loop through the mangrove forest, birdwatching and short guided nature tours. The park is generally open daily from 07:30 to 17:00 and the entrance ticket normally includes an official guide.
