The Simien Mountains form one of Africa's most spectacular mountain landscapes and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with jagged peaks, deep gorges and sheer escarpments dropping over 1,500 metres. The park protects the endemic gelada baboon, walia ibex and rare Ethiopian wolf, and is a world-class destination for high-altitude trekking to Ras Dashen, Ethiopia's highest peak.
