Pilanesberg National Park lies within the crater of an ancient extinct volcano, creating a striking landscape of concentric ridges and open plains near Sun City. Malaria-free and only a couple of hours from Johannesburg, it hosts the Big Five along with cheetahs, brown hyenas and over 300 bird species. Excellent road networks, hides and viewpoints make it one of South Africa's most popular self-drive safari parks.
