Okavango Delta, Botswana
The Okavango Delta is one of the world's largest inland deltas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the Okavango River fans out into the Kalahari sands rather than reaching the sea. This seasonally flooded labyrinth of channels, lagoons and islands sustains elephants, hippos, lions, wild dogs and vast birdlife. Explored by mokoro dugout canoe, boat or light aircraft, it is one of Africa's most pristine and evocative wilderness areas.
