Waterberg Plateau Park — Entry Fees & Practical Info

Waterberg Plateau Park is a striking table mountain rising abruptly from the surrounding plains of central Namibia, its sheer red sandstone cliffs glowing dramatically at sunrise and sunset. The porous rock of the plateau traps rainwater and releases it through springs at its base, creating a lush, well-watered oasis of woodland and greenery that stands in vivid contrast to the arid bushveld below, and gives the mountain its name, meaning 'water mountain'. This unique environment has made Waterberg an important sanctuary for rare and endangered species, and over the years it has been used to protect and breed animals such as white and black rhino, sable and roan antelope, and buffalo, alongside leopards, giraffes, kudu and abundant birdlife, including a breeding colony of Cape vultures. The plateau's relative inaccessibility has helped shield its wildlife, and access to the top is by guided activity. Visitors can enjoy guided game drives, self-guided hiking trails through the forested slopes, birdwatching and photography, all set against the memorable backdrop of the towering red cliffs.
