Lake Nakuru National Park — Entry Fees & Practical Info

Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya's most celebrated and picturesque parks, built around a shallow alkaline lake in the floor of the Great Rift Valley. For decades the lake was world-famous for the immense flocks of lesser and greater flamingos that gathered here in their hundreds of thousands, turning its shores a shimmering pink, and although flamingo numbers now fluctuate with changing water levels, the park remains a spectacular birding destination with over 450 recorded species. Beyond the birdlife, Lake Nakuru is a vital sanctuary for both black and white rhinos, offering some of the best rhino-viewing in the country, and it is also home to the tree-climbing lions, Rothschild's giraffes, buffaloes, leopards, hippos and large herds of plains game. The surrounding landscape of acacia woodland, rocky escarpments, euphorbia forest and the dramatic Makalia Falls provides varied and scenic terrain. Easily reached from Nairobi, the park is superb for game drives, birdwatching, photography and panoramic viewpoints such as Baboon Cliff overlooking the lake.
