Aberdare National Park — Entry Fees & Practical Info

Aberdare National Park protects a dramatic mountain range rising steeply in the central highlands of Kenya, a world of misty moorlands, deep forested valleys, tumbling waterfalls and cold, clear streams. Ranging from around 2,000 to over 4,000 metres in altitude, the park encompasses dense montane forest, bamboo zones and open Afro-alpine moorland cloaked in giant heather, offering scenery quite unlike Kenya's savanna parks. It is home to elephants, buffaloes, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, bushbuck, and the elusive bongo antelope, as well as rare sightings of the melanistic (black) leopard and serval. The park's rivers plunge over spectacular waterfalls such as the Karuru and Gura Falls, among the highest in the country. The Aberdares are also famous for their historic 'tree hotels', where guests watch wildlife gather at floodlit waterholes and salt licks through the night. Cool and often cloud-shrouded, the park is superb for game viewing, trout fishing, birdwatching, waterfall walks and photography in a refreshingly green highland setting.
