Watamu Marine National Park & Reserve — Entry Fees & Practical Info

Watamu Marine National Park and Reserve is one of Kenya's oldest and most beautiful marine protected areas, set along a stretch of dazzling white-sand beaches and turquoise lagoons on the north coast near Malindi. Part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, it protects fringing and patch coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove creeks that together form an exceptionally rich marine ecosystem. The warm, sheltered waters are home to more than 600 species of fish, hundreds of types of hard and soft coral, octopus, rays and reef sharks, while the surrounding beaches are an important nesting ground for green, hawksbill and olive ridley sea turtles. Snorkelling and glass-bottom boat trips over the coral gardens are hugely popular, and divers explore vibrant reefs teeming with life. The adjacent Mida Creek, a maze of mangroves and tidal flats, is a haven for wading birds and offers boardwalk walks, canoeing and stunning sunsets. With its combination of coral reefs, turtles, birdlife and idyllic beaches, Watamu is a highlight of the Kenyan coast.
